Work-related personal mobility – Data collection start

Written by Taxperience | July 2024

Following the various media statements from the Dutch government, you have probably noticed that the data collection obligation for work-related employee mobility has started as of July 1, 2024. This obligation applies to employers with more than 100 employees. These employers are obliged to provide annual data on the work-related mobility (commuting and business kilometers) of their employees.

The mentioned obligations are an integral part of the Environmental Decree in which the Dutch government has designated commuting and business mobility as environmentally harmful activities. The aim is to reduce the number of car mileage by 8 billion kilometers in 2030 compared to 2016, in order to achieve a reduction of at least 1 megaton of CO2.

The first report on work-related employee mobility will have to be submitted no later than June 30, 2025 via the digital platform of the RVO as being the implementing agency Since the registration obligation came into effect on July 1, 2024, it is important to properly set-up and keep your administration of work-related employee mobility from this month onwards.
